SA Peanuts Facility
The Only Peanut Seed Plant of Its Kind in South Africa
From the heart of the Hartswater irrigation region in the Northern Cape, our facility forms the core of SA Peanuts’ operations. Every system, process, and decision is designed to ensure reliability, quality, and integrity from the first delivery of raw product to the final shipment to our customers.
State-of-the-Art Facility
Our upgraded facility is equipped with advanced technology and strict food safety protocols, producing up to eight metric tons of bagged product per hour and providing 28,000 metric tons of farmerstock storage capacity.
Our Processing System
-

Arrival & Grading
Each farmer’s load arriving at the plant is carefully weighed and sampled using an automated system. A detailed grading process assesses quality, ensuring that only the best peanuts move forward for processing.
-

Drying & Bulk Storage
Peanuts are connected to high-capacity dryers that reduce moisture to optimal levels. Once dried, 24-ton loads are hydraulically offloaded into the bulk warehouse within 15 minutes, ready for storage before processing begins.
-

Cleaning & Foreign Object Removal
A sophisticated conveyor system moves the peanuts to the pre-cleaner, which separates whole peanuts from broken or shelled ones. Foreign material such as sand, sticks, or stones is carefully removed to maintain product purity.
-

Shelling & Refining
The de-shelling process removes the outer husk, leaving only the clean kernel. Using gravity systems and precision sorting technology, any remaining plant material or shell fragments are eliminated to ensure a pure product.
-

Sorting & Quality Control
Peanuts are meticulously sorted by size, shape, and colour. Advanced optical systems detect and remove defects, while skilled staff perform a final manual quality check to guarantee uniformity and quality.
Each farmer stock delivery is also tested multiple times throughout the processing cycle by independent accredited laboratories, ensuring consistent excellence and compliance with strict quality standards.
-

Bagging & Final Inspection
Approved peanuts are bagged and sealed, with samples taken once more for final quality assurance. This ensures that every product leaving the plant meets SA Peanuts’ strict standards.
-

Storage & Shipment
Bagged peanuts are stored in controlled environments, preserving freshness and safety before being dispatched to local and international markets.
Research And Development
Over the past decade, SA Peanuts has registered multiple new cultivars as part of a focused and forward-thinking development programme. This continued expansion of our cultivar portfolio reflects our commitment to strengthening both the irrigation and dryland sectors, driving improved yields, stability, and increased farm income.
Looking ahead, we plan to re-register several cultivars within the next five years, ensuring ongoing genetic advancement and sustained growth opportunities for producers. At the same time, our carefully managed production processes uphold the highest quality standards, delivering a superior, consistent product to buyers in both local and export markets.
Our Commitment to Quality
Every stage of our process reflects our dedication to quality control and international standards. Each farmer stock delivery is tested multiple times throughout processing by independent accredited laboratories, ensuring consistent excellence and securing our BRCGS AA grade year after year.
